Living Science: Where Science is Happening

The world is facing global challenges, which call for integrated perspectives into innovation in Science and Technology. This requires simultaneously a global view of fast developing trends in Science and Technology worldwide, as well as the ability to focus on spatially and temporally concentrated efforts.

We believe that it is now time to provide scientists, policy makers, funding agencies and the interested public, with a global view of Science in real time. With these objectives we have build Living Science, an initiative that integrates upcoming new scientific information with the place and time where it happens. We hope that this interactive tool can help inform the perspectives of all interested in the development of Science and Technology and increase the pace of development of scientific endeavors and collaborations, across regional and national boundaries. Using Living Science you can now (or will soon be able to) discover for example: Where are there scientific activity clusters? What is the specialization and portfolio of scientific institutions? What is the reach in space and time of collaboration networks? What are newly emerging fields? What are current subjects of publication? Try for yourself!

The current version of Living Science is a real time global science observatory based on publications submitted to arXiv.org. It covers real time (daily) submissions of publications in areas as diverse as Physics, Astronomy, Computer Science, Mathematics and Quantitative Biology. Currently, contents are dynamically updated each day. The functionality will be extended on a continuous basis with the objective of making Living Science a powerful analysis tool to identify the magnitude and impact of scientific work worldwide.

In order to quickly expand our science platform, we welcome collaborations with other scientists and data providers, such as publishers and ICT companies. In particular, we are looking for ingenious scientists and programmers, who are committed to developing new functionalities and services with us. If you are interested in helping, please contact Sergi Lozano stating your skills and interests.
